- Abstract
An essay is presented on the literary representation of American cowboy Buffalo Bill and Native Americans in the writings of 19th century Cuban author José Martí. The author traces Martí's use of ethnographic and scientific discourse to analyze the personalities depicted in Buffalo Bill's cowboy-themed shows and explores Martí's literary depiction of the relationship between indigenous people and Western civilization.
