- Title
Recovery of the Dream? The outstation movement twenty years on.
- Authors
Steele, Trevor
- Abstract
The article presents the author's views on the condition of aboriginal people living in Arnhem Land in relation to the outstation movement which began in the early 1970s. The movement was an Aboriginal initiative supported by the government. Tiny settlements were set up to draw the people back to their own land. Physical conditions of life in the outstations are often unpleasant. The author blames Aborigines themselves for being an obstacle to such a beneficial reform of outstation life.
