- Title
A New Goal for Today's PR Officer: CEO.
- Authors
Rogers, Henry C.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the goals of public relation officers. The public relations professional has come a long way in recent years. Starting as the person who worked in a dingy cubby hole, writing press releases under the direction of probably an assistant vice president, he has now emerged as one of his company's most prestigious and influential corporate officers. The primary reason for this upward movement is that the mission and function of public relations has become increasingly more important in light of the ever mounting challenges which confront corporate management. With this realization came the new policy for the public relations officer to sit in on the meeting where important corporate decisions are made and help to make those decisions. Today's chief executive officer has become increasingly aware of the importance of effective corporate communications and in the great majority of cases is aware of his own lack of understanding of the corporate communications function. He knows that there is a growth of negative information in the market place.
