- Abstract
A catalytic amount ofnBuLi is enough for launching a catalytic cycle, in which a nitrone ylide reacts with an aldehyde through a two ‐ step cycloaddition process to produce 3 ‐ oxazolines and a water molecule; the latter is used to regenerate the catalytic species. Actually, nBuLi acts as a pre ‐ catalyst by forming initial activated reactants. Solvated lithium is not only the real catalyst of the reaction, but it is also responsible for water elimination.
