- Authors

- Abstract
The book "The Mediation Paradox: A Sociological Study on Mediation in Disputes" by Justus Heck deals with the topic of mediation in Germany. The author examines various mediation procedures such as arbitration and court proceedings and argues that mediation is the most differentiated form of mediation. He emphasizes the mediator's influence on the parties to the dispute and their conflict. The book offers important insights into professionalism in counseling, coaching, supervision, and mediation. The author argues that mediation by lawyers and judges is just as effective as out-of-court mediation and emphasizes the importance of metacommunication and flexibility. However, criticism is directed at the lack of focus on the emotional dimension in conflict situations and the negative connotation of emotions. The author suggests that further empirical research in this area is necessary.
