IMMUNOLOGIC ASPECTS OF LEPROSY.
- Authors

- Abstract
Leprosy has intrigued immunologists in recent years. There appears to be a paradox of strongly expressed cell-mediated immunity in some individuals with the disease while depression of this immunity is seen in others. Recent evidence has been uncovered possibly to relate these findings, along with the enhanced humoral immune responsiveness seen commonly in leprosy, to the varied clinical manifestations. This article describes some current concepts of the clinicoimmunologic relationships. It first briefly describes the clinicopathologic spectrum of leprosy and then considers the antigenic characteristics of M. leprae, the infecting organisms.
