- Title
A Heuristic Channel Allocation Model Using Cognitive Radio.
- Authors

- Abstract
Channels are the scarce radio resources and are to be utilized judicially. Though efforts are being made for maximum utilization of the channels, studies indicate that still full channel utilization is often not done because of many constraints. The concept of cognitive radio suggests that opportunistic channel utilization is possible if the mobile services are classified into two classes. The usage of the channels are based on the cognition that the radio derives. This work proposes a new heuristic that makes better channel utilization using the concept of cognitive radio. Priority is given to the handoff services in comparison to the new call services. Simulation study, of the model, indicates the effective channel utilization in terms of blocked and dropped services.
