- Abstract
The author states that sedation is necessary to enhance patient comfort and to avoid painful physical stimuli during surgeries and also mentions that in order to improve surgical process and outcomes, analgesics are sometimes supplemented with regional anesthesia. The author further describes pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic effects of commonly used sedative and analgesic drugs including benzodiazepines, propofol and dexmedetomidine.
