- Abstract
This document is a response to a review on clinical and laboratory status for thyroid testing. The authors address two points raised in the review: the need for empirical evidence that thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is superior to thyroid hormones for testing, and evidence for individual set points in thyroid tests. The authors argue that there is ample evidence for individual set points in thyroid function tests and that TSH outperforms thyroid hormones for detecting minor differences in thyroid function in individual patients. They conclude that while TSH is the primary screening test for thyroid dysfunction, assessing T4 and T3 levels may also be appropriate.
