- Abstract
Dear Editor, Paediatricians are increasingly confronted with complex challenges such as the diagnosis of incurable illness and the limitations posed by medicine itself. Spinal muscular atrophy can be considered a paradigm: the availability of a recently approved drug has radically changed the course of the illness by offering patients an enhanced duration and quality of life. We currently care for with 49 children with spinal muscular atrophy, patients at various stages of the disease (in terms of clinical subtype and degree of disease progression).
