- Title
Breaking bad blood: β2-microglobulin as a pro-aging factor in blood.
- Authors
Filiano, Anthony J; Kipnis, Jonathan
- Abstract
The article discusses research done on β2-microglobulin (B2M) as a pro-aging factor in blood. It references a study by L. K. Smith and colleagues published in the 2015 issue of "Nature Medicine." The researchers investigated elevated levels of B2M both in the plasma and in the hippocampus compared to young mice. It was found that B2M inhibits the proliferation and differentiation of hippocampal neural progenitor cells (NPCs) and negatively affects congnition in mice.
