- Title
Synergy from combining two energy-generating technologies.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses the combination of two electricity generating processes including microbial fuel cell (MFC) and Reverse electrodialysis (RED) to produce a device known as a microbial-reverse electrodialysis cell (MRC) which increases the efficiency of electricity production. The benefit of using ammonium bicarbonate in the anode and cathode chambers is that its two components (ammonia and carbon dioxide) can be readily boiled out of the solution, recaptured and reused.
