Youth Sport: For the Parent or Child?
- Abstract
This article looks at the article "The child athlete: Psychological implications of participation in sport," by B. Ogilvie from "The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science." The author examines the organized, adult-controlled youth sport programs and the child organized, child centered recreational model using intrinsic rewards. He suggests that parents should not force their ideas and desires on the needs of the children.
