- Title
Blake: An Unnoted Iconographic ‘Allusion’ in The Book of Urizen.
- Authors
Miner, Paul
- Abstract
The article discusses the depiction of a bee in the illustration of plate 25 of English poet William Blake's 1794 poem "The Book of Urizen" and its connection to the bee from English poet John Milton's 1667 poem "Paradise Lost." The author states Blake's darker depiction of the bee reflects his contrasting view of God's creation of Earth and man compared to Milton's view in "Paradise Lost." Other works by Blake discussed include "A Vision of the Last Judgment," "Milton," and "The Four Zoas."
