- Abstract
This article presents information on the poetry volume "The Less Deceived," by British poets, Philip Larkin and George Herbert. It is reported that this title is taken from the poem "Deceptions," originally published in the journal "XX Poems" in 1951. According to the author, while the phrase has often been used to indicate the general mood of Larkin's poetry, the poem itself has not been much anthologized and is probably not among his best-known pieces. It is based on an account from Henry Mayhew's "London Labour and the London Poor" of a girl who is drugged, taken by night to an attic, and raped.
