- Abstract
The article reports on the separation and characterization of a new simazine-degrading β-proteobacterium as well as the identification of genes encoding s-triazine-degrading enzymes. It accounts the improvement of a simazine-degrading bacterial consortium through a technique involving the use of porous charcoal as well as the succeeding isolation of strain CDB21. Results highlighted the potential of strain CDB21 in degrading simazine along with several chlorinated s-triazine herbicides. The authors note that the combination of ORF30 and atzB in strain CDB21 reflects the significant difference between the localization of atzA from the localization in Pseudomonas sp. strain ADP.
