- Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Perimenopause is a period that is immediately before menopause, endocrinously characterized by a slight increase in HSF concentrations, normal to high concentrations of estradiol and a decrease in plasma dosages of Progesterone. These hormonal variations tend to lead to the appearance of symptoms such as heat waves, fatigue, sweating, anxiety disorders and depression that are characteristic of perimenopause and not menopause itself. For the performance of experimental models of perimenopause, Wistar female rats were used because these rodents presented an estral cycle with diestro phase similar to the luteal phase present in the menstrual cycle of women. In order to induce ovarian depletion and accelerate the perimenopause process in these rats, the 4-vinylcyclohexeno eggtoxic compound (VCD) was used. PURPOSE: This work aims to analyze anxiety behavior in rats perimenopausal by VCD and treated with progesterone conjugated estradiol with the experimental perimenopause model in the open field. METHODS: The videos of these rats who received Treatment with VCD for 15 days, during 60 days of the start of treatment with VCD, subcutaneous implants of estradiol and progesterone were introduced and after surgery to implantation of the pellets the animals prophylactic treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Later these rats suffered stress from social isolation (for 24 hours) and containment in tubes (for 2 hours), and then evaluated in the open field. RESULTS: Based on the analyses of the videos, it was possible to perceive that the animals that received hormonal treatment with progesterone conjugated estradiol presented a higher percentage of length of stay in the central quadrants and a lower percentage of time in the peripheral quadrants in relation to rats who were perimenopausal more than did not receive hormonal treatment. CONCLUSION: It is inferred that the hormonal treatment performed in these rats achieved a positive result, observing that there was an improvement in predictive anxiety behaviors in these rodents.
