- Abstract
Pigmentation disorder has been observed in many vertebrate taxa. However, the occurrence of albinism in bats is a rare phenomenon observed only in 6.4% of the total bat species in the world. Besides, most of the records are from the South American countries and less recorded in Asia. This study describes the first record of an albino adult short-nosed fruit male bat (Cynopterus brachyotis) that was captured in Pulau Redang, Malaysia. The bat displays complete albino characteristics, and the white fur coloration does not represent a new color form for the species or a cryptic species. Based on our knowledge, this adult albino C. brachyotis is the second albino bat reported in the country, and the first recorded in off-coast island of Peninsular Malaysia.
