- Abstract
This document is a letter published in the journal JA Clinical Reports. The authors conducted a randomized controlled trial to investigate the association between grip strength and postoperative delirium in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The study included patients aged over 60 years who underwent elective cardiac surgery at a single hospital. The intervention group performed grip strength training at home before surgery, while the control group did not. The results showed that the incidence of postoperative delirium was lower in the intervention group compared to the control group. However, the study was discontinued before recruiting the entire study population due to difficulties in obtaining consent and a small number of participants. The authors suggest that training to improve grip strength may have a potential role in reducing postoperative delirium.
