- Title
THE PROCUREMENT PROBLEM IN SOVIET RETAIL TRADE.
- Authors
Ware, Henry H.
- Abstract
The article reports on difficulties associated with the procurement of merchandise in the Soviet Union. The author focuses on logistical and government-enforced boundaries managers of retail stores face when trying to purchase consumer goods to sell. The availability of supplies depends largely on economic planning. It is suggested that the Soviet government improve economic planning methods by paying more attention to consumer demand. It is further proposed that Marxian theory has influenced the evolution of supply chain management in the country. Marketing channels are discussed in relation to the development of trade distribution in the USSR. The positive effects of wholesaling are also examined.
