- Abstract
Biological anthropology treats the origin and development of humankind, and anthropology also has very wide practical applications. A new branch of biological anthropology, the study of the body of modern humans, or neoanthropology, as it is being called, is emerging. The article discusses separately the three main fields of biological anthropology. i.e. paleoanthropology; applied anthropology; and neoanthropology. Many racial studies have distinguished typological races, each characterized by a number of particular physical features, such as color of skin, color and characteristics of head hair, shape of the eyes, nose and lips, etc. A race is a subdivision of a species or a subspecies, in taxonomic terms. External physical features indicate that the white race is closer to the yellow race and the black race closer to the brown race. However, through the comparison of many genetic factors, the general conclusion is that the white race is closer to the Negroids and the yellow race closer to the Australoids. Mitotic studies of the cells also confirm such relationships. It therefore seems that external traits are more strongly subject to the influence of environmental factors than genetic components.
