The article discusses the movement of the Argentine motion picture industry toward national integration and class polarization in the 1930s. It examines various films that feature several acknowledged box-office champions. It tackles the common themes of melodrama and comedies in the Argentine film industry. It analyzes how the domestic film industry competed with Hollywood cinema and argues that Argentine film melodramas and comedies presented a critique of social mobility.
