- Abstract
Immunological contact reactions to latex, especially in rubber gloves are frequently seen among healthcare workers. The reason for a presumed increased prevalence during the past decade may be increased glove use, altered glove manufacturing technology or increased diagnostic acumen. Allergy to latex can be proven by use tests. A positive use test is diagnostic and of clinical relevance. A prick test, in the hands of a qualified investigator strongly suggests latex allergy, however some patients have low-grade clinical hypersensitivity, so that they may wear some low-latex-protein-releasing gloves.
