- Abstract
DSC, Raman, ESR and optical absorption studies on boro zinc tellurite glasses have been carried out. The variation in glass transition temperature is discussed in terms of structural parameters. The Raman spectra of these glasses reveal that the glass network consists of TeO4, TeO3+1, TeO3, different tetrahedral borate groups and ZnO vibrating modes. The values of the spin Hamiltonian parameters indicate that the ground state of Cu2+ is dx2-y2 and Cu2+ ions in boro zinc tellurite groups are present in octahedral coordination with a strong tetrahedral distortion. The optical absorption peak of Cu2+ ion for all the glass samples is single asymmetric band, which corresponds to a ²B1gƲB2g transition of Cu2+ ions. Bonding parameters were calculated from both EPR and optical data.
