- Abstract
The article examines three questions including whether China's currency, the renminbi (RMB) could become an international currency, what are the impacts of the international use of the RMB on Hong Kong, and whether the Hong Kong dollar should be repegged to the RMB. The authors define an international currency as one that experiences wide use outside its home country and is used as an exchange rate anchor for other currencies. Other topics include open and developed financial markets and assets demanded by international investors.
