- Abstract
The article presents a study on the prevalence and causation of bullying at primary schools. Six primary schools in Seyhan and Yuregir country in Adana city, Turkey, 212 girls and 221 boys, ages ranged from 10 to 14 were asked to answer a questionnaire to determine the extent and types of bullying, times and places of bullying and reactions of students against bullying. The study shows that boys encountered being bullied and bullying behavior more than girls and indicates that gender is an important factor for bullying behavior. It also indicates that bullying is often verbal and frequently occurred in playgrounds, near school places, classrooms and corridors. Moreover, the study suggests that schools administrative should improve safeguards against bullying.
