- Abstract
The article discusses ancient Italian artworks, including wall paintings discovered in the preserved ruins of the extinct city of Herculaneum, Italy, and a landscape fresco housed in the National Museum of Naples. The wall decorations, dating to the time of the early Roman Republic, were discovered in 1927 by archaeologist Amadeo Maiuri in the "Casa dell'Erma di Bronzo," the modern name for a small house in the central excavation area of Heculaneum. The paintings are described in detail and illustrated, as is a period fresco of a landscape in the so-called Third Style.
