Making a positive diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome.

- Abstract
The article discusses the factors that contribute to the positive diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome. It references the guidelines issued by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) on the management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) that exclude invasive tests, such as colonoscopy. However, general practitioners are reluctant to adopt a positive approach to diagnosing IBS due to concerns of a missed organic pathology in patients with colorectal cancer.
