- Abstract
This article discusses the implementation and initial outcomes of a pilot project to devise a hypoglycaemia care bundle label. The aims were to improve compliance amongst ward-based staff with the documentation of hypoglycaemia events, and to prompt correct hypoglycaemia treatment and management. Following a 6-month trial on one acute inpatient ward, hypoglycaemia documentation and outcomes improved. The completion of timely and contemporaneous records increased, along with staff engagement and the correct management and treatment of hypoglycaemia. Additionally, as a direct outcome of the pilot, positive changes to current diabetes ward practice have been embedded. Due to the success of this pilot, national funding has been accessed to expand to a full project for a further year on four medical wards within the acute hospital.
