- Abstract
The article discusses the benefits and risks of the technology called the remote deposit capture (RDC). The RDC is a device capturing checks electronically and is known to reduce bank costs, improve operations and increase efficiency. It may however expose financial institutions to various risks such as money laundering, fraud and duplication. Regulators and The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council are constantly examining and updating guidelines to ensure the safe use of the RDC.
