- Abstract
The evaluation of maternal anthropometric characteristics and prenatal care on birthweight. Material and methods: It was carried out a cross-sectional study in a sample of 400 women lately confined and their newborns, hospitalized at Clinical Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology .Cuza Voda. in Iasi. Information regarding the prenatal visits was obtained through interview. The maternal anthropometric parameters: pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), total weight gain and birthweight were determined. Results: The frequency of underweight women was of 11.54% and that of overweight and obese women was of 21.25%. Of the women studied 18% have underused the prenatal consultation. Through stepwise multiple regressions were included the following variables with a predictive role in the birthweight: weight gain (β=16,21; p<0,001), pre- -pregnancy BMI (β=23,26; p<0.001) and the number of prenatal visits (β=9,59; p=0,048). Conclusion: The results confirm the role of monitoring the nutritional status of pregnant women during the prenatal consultation.
