- Abstract
This article presents ways in which the literature can and should be used to further understanding of a culture and the fulfillment of the church's mission in society - in this case, in Brazilian society. The article gives special attention to three Brazilian writers well known by their ability to see the key elements of the culture: Graciliano Ramos, Erico Verrissimo and Jorge Amado. As the relevant themes are found in the literature, the article presents several Biblical texts, and develops an interaction among both fields of knowledge, and points out the church's mission as the way to bring hope for society.
