Oral candidiasis in non-severe COVID-19 patients: call for antibiotic stewardship Keywords: antimicrobial stewardship; candidiasis; COVID-19; oral manifestations; tongue EN antimicrobial stewardship candidiasis COVID-19 oral manifestations tongue 465 466 2 07/06/22 20220801 NES 220801 Bacterial/fungal coinfection is a suggested aetiological theory for the COVID-19-related oral manifestations that may trigger overprescribing of broad-spectrum antibiotics for COVID-19 patients, especially for the ones who experience a longer course of the infection. In conclusion, our case gives an account of the possibility of a potentially life-threatening opportunistic oral infection that had been caused by empirical broad-spectrum antibiotics prescription in a moderate COVID-19 case; and it also supports the involvement of dental practitioners among the interdisciplinary teams dealing with severely ill COVID-19 patients in ICUs5.
