- Abstract
In this article the authors focus on an approach of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) Surveillance Definition Working Group related to VAP surveillance. The first tier of the approach is focused on identifying respiratory deterioration in mechanically ventilated patients. It mentions that radiographic evidence of pneumonia is not included in the approach as it lacks specificity related to interpretation of the disease.
