- Abstract
This is a cross-sectional study conducted to investigate quality of life, job satisfaction, presence of mental disorders, and level of physical activities among primary care workers in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Validated instruments were used (WHOQOL-Bref, Effort-Reward Imbalance, General Health Questionnaire, and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire). Descriptive and bivariate analyses were performed. Occupational categories were aggregated into three groups in bivariate analysis (General Services/Community Health Workers; Technicians/assistants; nurses/dentists/doctors). 752 workers (95% of the total) were evaluated – 470 Community Health Workers; 69 Technicians/Nursing Assistants; 51 Technicians/Dental Assistants; 52 Dentists; 71 Nurses; and 39 Doctors. The mean age was 32 years (± 8.3) - 80% were women. About 20% had job dissatisfaction. The Social Relations and Environmental dimensions had respectively the least and greatest impact on quality of life. 67% showed an imbalance between effort and reward at work. About 16% had mental disorders and 22% were sedentary / insufficiently active. Job satisfaction, effort-reward imbalance, mental health, and physical activity level showed statistically significant differences (p<0.05) among the three occupational groups. The results call attention to psychosocial risks posed for these workers, demonstrating the need for encouraging healthy lifestyles.
