- Authors
Davis, Joseph E.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the changing concept of medicalization and its effect on medicine. Medicalization was once referred to the social process of expanding the medical profession which followed from the reformation of life processes and problems such as health. The current definition is much broader for it include a broad medical phenomena. Sociologists Eliot Freidson and Irving Zola commented that one of the problems of medicalization was the extended jurisdiction of medicine beyond its scope.
