- Abstract
In this study, in the context of continuous professional development activities, it is aimed to reveal the opinions of the teachers who have received extra service points with the teacher appointment and replacement regulation which has been updated by the Ministry of National Education in 2020. Phenomenological research design which is among the qualitative research methods was used in this study. The study group consisted of 22 participants of different ages, gender, branch, and tenure. The criterion sampling method, one of the purposeful sampling methods, was used in determining the study group. As a criterion, it was determined that getting extra service points as a result of update of the teacher appointment and replacement regulation in 2020. The data of the study had been collected by using a semi-structured interview form which was prepared by researchers, including 11 questions via face-to-face interviews. The data was analyzed with the content analysis method, including the process of defining, encoding, and classifying major patterns. As a result of the analysis, the themes of evaluation of continuous professional development activities, the role of update of the service point regulation on teachers’ continuous professional development, and the deficiencies of the updated form of the service point regulation have emerged. Among the teachers who participated in this study, those with less professional seniority and need extra service points evaluated the relevant regulation update as an incentive reward that encourages participation in continuous professional development activities. On the other hand, the teachers who have more professional seniority and do not need service points stated that they participate in continuous professional development activities without any expectations other than improving themselves and they do not need any motivation tool for participating in the activities, but they consider getting extra service point as a reward for their efforts.
