- Abstract
The article focuses on the latest factor that contribute to Alzheimer's disease. Factors that contribute to the disease include genetic mutations, environmental factors, and the latest factor which is the disease risk gene that is involved in calcium regulation. Increase expression of the gene which is called CALHM1 meaning calcium homeostasis modulator 1, enhances the entry of calcium into the cell and its concentration in the cytoplasm. It is stated that negative-association of polymorphisms with the risks of Alzheimer's disease suggest that CALHM1's road to become an Alzheimer's disease gene could be rutted like the previous candidates.
