- Abstract
The article presents a study on the effects of ultraviolet (UV)radiation on gamma-isomer of hexachlorocyclohexane (gamma-HCH). Effect of UV light on sand sprayed with gamma-HCH showed a 81 percent decrease of gamma-HCH content at one hour, as compared with the control. Similarly, when sand was sprayed with gamma-HCH and chlorophyll were irradiated with UV light for half of an hour and one hour, the level of gamma-HCH decreased by 65 percent and 67 percent respectively. In conclusion, the decrease of gamma-HCH in sand sprayed with gamma-HCH after exposure to UV light indicates volatilization.
