- Authors
Smeeding, Timothy M.; Waldfogel, Jane
- Abstract
The author reflects on the prevalence of child poverty in the U.S. and Great Britain. He mentions that Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) reported that the U.S. and Great Britain were ranked last and second last among 21 countries in terms of child poverty. He states that Great Britain's antipoverty initiative was more aspiring than the U.S. welfare reforms. He highlights that the economic downturn and the worldwide financial crisis has posed challenges for the antipoverty initiative.
