- Abstract
A literary criticism of the book "Elizabeth Costello" by J. M. Coetzee is presented. It explores the portrayal of the characters of subjects and the entire worlds to be inhabited. It examines the emergence of tension throughout the novel and the inseparable tasks of the character and setting. It also discusses the significance of the character's travel to foreign territory as a framework for ethical encounters.
