- Abstract
The present study aimed to find out behavioral problems among offspring of drug addicts and to further investigate the gender differences on the basis of behavioral problems. The sample consisted of two hundred and eighty subjects (N = 280). One hundred and fourty (n=140) of them were general population and other one hundred and fourty subjects (n=140) included those children whose parents were involved in drug addiction for about five years. The sample was approached at different hospitals, institutes and homes. Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) (Sammad & Hollis et al., 2005) was administered to measure behavioral problems, depression and anxiety. Results clearly indicate the significant differences among off-springs of drug addicts and off springs of non-drug addicts on behavioral problems (t =2.038, p<.000). No significant result has been obtained among off-springs of drug addicts on Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire with respect to male and female (t = 1.6, p>.000). Hence our hypothesis has not been confirmed. On evaluating the results of this study, it is concluded that parental drug addiction can psychologically affect their children. This in turn can affect other areas of their life.
