- Title
What Should Nephrologists Know About Hand Ischemia?
- Authors
Scott, Eric C.; DeMasi, Richard J.
- Abstract
The article offers suggestions for nephrologists for the treatment of symptomatic ischemia of the hand or steal syndrome. It is noted that symptoms of steal syndrome develop in patients from hours to months following creation of an arteriovenous fistula (AVF). It is stated that digital photoplethysmography and digital-brachial index can provide critical hemodynamic information in patients who register symptoms of steal syndrome after undergoing AVF creation.
