- Abstract
The increased risk of CVD mortality in primiparous women, with either a singleton or twin pregnancy, and pregnancy complications brings to question whether pregnancy complications are independently associated with CVD mortality or whether the "stress" of pregnancy amplifies or uncovers an underlying predisposition of these women to both pregnancy complications and subsequent CVD mortality. Over the last decade, the contribution of pregnancy complications to the development of long-term cardiovascular disease (CVD) and CVD-related mortality in women has been a priority area for both perinatal and cardiovascular epidemiologists. They found that a lifetime history of one twin pregnancy was associated with an increased risk of CVD mortality compared to a lifetime history of three singleton pregnancies, with the risk comparable to women with a history of one singleton pregnancy.
