- Abstract
The General University Requirements (GUR) has been implemented at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) since 2012/2013 academic year in response to the higher education reform in Hong Kong. The present study examined the effectiveness of GUR subjects in 2014/15 academic year using the Student Feedback Questionnaire (SFQ). Results showed that students generally gave positive feedback on their learning experience and the teaching staff. Students' perceptions of the effectiveness of GUR subjects varied across different GUR components. Language and Communication Requirements (LCR) subjects were overall rated higher than subjects in other domains. While students' subjective outcome evaluation about the teaching staff of Leadership and Interpersonal Development (LIPD) subjects was relatively higher, Freshman Seminar (FS) subjects were rated less favorable as compared to other GUR components.
