- Abstract
This article discusses the impact of a missed mass drug administration (MDA) on the elimination of lymphatic filariasis (LF) in Haiti. LF is a parasitic disease that affects 1.3 billion people worldwide. The Global Programme to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (GPELF) was launched in 2000, and since then, 48 out of 81 endemic countries have implemented MDA. However, challenges such as limited resources and difficulties in reaching a national scale have hindered the success of the program. The article focuses on the case of Haiti, where a missed MDA resulted in a significant increase in antigen prevalence and microfilaremia, highlighting the importance of sustained funding and consistent drug delivery in LF elimination programs.
