- Abstract
Objective: Where antenatal transfer is not possible, postnatal transjeris necessary for infants born in appopriate conditions. The aim of this study was to determine the current status of neonatal transport conducted with 112 provincial ambulance service in Istanbul. Material and Method: Neonatal transport data were provided by Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate, Emergency Health Services, Istanbul Province 112 Ambulance Service during 2013 in Istanbul. Results: There were 123 emergency station on the European side, and of 71 on the Anatolian side and ambulance service was provided by 140-145 ambulance per day. The average number of daily transport was 1.379+87 and 11±2 (5.5%) of them were neonatal transport. There were not a separate ambulance and health team for neonatal transport. Health staff got no sufficient education in neonatal transport. The ambulances were not transfer vehicle. There were 9 transport incubator and 3 mechanical ventilation that consistent with all ambulance. A total of 4142 newborns were transferred with 112 ambulances from 50 hospitals to 104 different locations. 2784 (67%) of patients have been transported from a hospital where neonatal specialists worked, 2102 (51%) of them have been transferred to hospitals which without neonatal specialist. There were no any standard policies and practices relating to transport. Conclusion: Neonatcd transport in Istanbul realized in messy order with insufficient technical equipment and staff It will be proper to realize educated and sufficient number health staff and suitable technical feasibility in short time and be unde debate of neonatal transport in basic health policy in long time period. All ingredients especially Turkish Neonatology' Association put in an appearance actively in planning and standardization of transport in legal, educational, technological and medical issues.
