- Title
THE UNNECESSARY MYSTIQUE SURROUNDING THE MANUFACTURING PROGRESS MODELS.
- Authors
SIMONE, ALBERT J.
- Abstract
The article refers to research by T. P. Wright in 1936, which focused on a learning or improvement process in aircraft manufacturing, and explains the mathematical and statistical procedures in the manufacturing progress model. The basic concept is that as output increases, learning and progress occur. The fixed improvement rates are usually stated in terms of doubled output units. However, a formula for transforming these doubled-unit rates into other relative increments of ouput is given. The generalized learning rate formula, definition of the arc elasticity of direct labor, and formulas for calculating direct labor man-hours are discussed.
