- Title
Yellowstone Bison Genetics: Let Us Move Forward.
- Authors
Halbert, Natalie D.; Gogan, Peter J. P.; Hedrick, Philip W.; Wahl, Jacquelyn M.; Derr, James N.
- Abstract
The authors present a response to a commentary on their paper which assessed the population structure among Yellowstone National Park (YNP) bison based on 46 autosomal microsatellite loci in 661 animals. They clarify the influence of anthropogenic activities on the genetic substructure observed between the northern and central populations. They question the commentary's assertion that the conservation of ecological processes is more important than genomic conservation.
