- Abstract
The purpose of this research is to investigate the effects of activities based on Project Based Learning (PBL) approach on self-regulation and metacognitive skills. For this purpose, the research was carried out with a group of 10th grade students (N=204) in the "Elective Project Preparation Course" which was conducted with PBL activities. A quasi-experimental model with pretest-posttest control group was preferred in the study. The data of the study were collected by Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) and Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). The levels of metacognitive and self-regulation skills of the students were determined. The pre-test and post-test results were analyzed descriptively. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) for repeated measures was applied in order to observe the effect of experimental process on students' skills. As a result of the research, it is concluded that activities carried out with the experimental group lead to an increase in the scores of the metacognitive skills and self-regulation skills that the students have. The mean scores of the experimental group were higher than the mean scores of the control group and this difference was statistically significant. The Elective Project Preparation Course carried out with the activities based on the PBL approach has a high impact on the development of the students' metacognitive and self-regulation skills.
